Deacon Printus Lowell Dates, Sr., husband of Charlene Brooks Dates (whom he lovingly referred to as "Charlie") journeyed to be with God on October 6, 2011 at his home in Providence Forge, Virginia. Deacon Dates was funeralized on Saturday, October 15 here at New Zion. All details of his funeral were planned by him in the weeks and days prior to his death.

Rev. Matthew T. Flythe went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 5, 2009 after a long illness. Rev. Flythe taught the Adult Sunday School Class and was the first teacher of the mid-day Bible Study. He also assisted Pastor Whitehead with Wednesday Night Bible Study; assisted with New Member's Class; counseled individuals one-on-one; preached Sunday Morning Services when called upon; performed wedding ceremonies; chaired the sub-committee for the Leadership Team and provided training for the new deacons.
